A Christmas message from our CEO, Carwyn.

Dear amazing supporters!

On behalf of everyone at Hope Health Action, we wanted to write to say a huge thank you for your amazing support in 2021 and to wish you a very happy Christmas and blessed New Year!

2021 has been another challenging year for many but your love, generosity and prayers have helped us bring life transforming care to thousands!

In Haiti, we’ve faced one of the toughest years for a long time with growing political instability, the assassination of the President, a devastating earthquake, a national fuel crisis and the tragic recent fuel tanker explosion in Cap-Haitien. Yet, against this devastating backdrop, your support has provided life-saving health care to so many people. As I shared in a blog a few months ago, I am always proud of what our partner hospital manages to achieve, but there are times when it’s presence seems even more significant and this seems like one of those years! Whether through our continued COVID19 response or the hospitals tireless efforts remaining fully open when others were sadly forced to close or reduce services.  Together, we’ve got Maison de Benediction (our respite centre for children with disabilities) back up and running full time, we opened a new wheelchair distribution centre with our amazing partners Walkabout Foundation that’s distributed hundreds of wheelchairs across Haiti, we’ve made countless infrastructure improvements at the hospital and just delivered a container full of life saving aid!  Then of course there’s the thousands of patients who’ve passed through the hospital this year receiving care in departments like our Rehabilitation Centre, kindly funded by our amazing partners Swiss Paraplegic Foundation.

In East Africa, we’ve provided emergency food aid to countless refugee families struggling with severe food insecurity and continued our partnership with the amazing Edesia, sending more Plumpy’Nut (a therapeutic food to treat severe and acute malnutrition) to the UNHCRs refugee settlements across Uganda, we’ve progressed Amazing Grace school with some brilliant new school buildings for children impacted by the South Sudan war and just recently opened New Hope Rehabilitation Centre in BidiBidi with the amazing SwissLimbs. BidiBidi is one of the largest refugee settlements in the world; this centre is going to transform disability care for thousands.  One of my highlights this year was seeing the beaming smile of one of the first children who received a wheelchair at this centre just a few weeks ago.

We hope during this festive season you’ll be encouraged by a few of these highlights that give just a glimpse as to the incredible impact we’ve made together!  From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!

I hope and pray you’ll know the love, joy, hope and peace of Christmas in the coming weeks and we look forward to continuing this life-saving work with you in 2022…which is a very special year for HHA. More to come on that soon...

With much love and thanks,

Carwyn & all the HHA team around the world!
