Life-saving Aid to Haiti

We’re delighted to announce that just before Christmas an HHA 40ft container of life-saving equipment arrived at our partner hospital in Haiti. A huge thanks to partners Konbit Sante and Meds & Food For Kids who helped with the shipping and unloading logistics!

This container (kindly funded by HHA UK & US and Haiti Rehab Schweiz) was the result of months of hard work, logistical challenges (in COVID19 times) and some incredible generosity from supporters and partners.

Our long-term friends, Swiss Paraplegic Foundation, kindly donated a range of materials for our rehabilitation unit, including some excellent gym and physiotherapy equipment and a much-needed x-ray machine.  We also had some important new solar electrical equipment donated, which our partners Offgrid Energy helped to assemble (pictured being placed in its new home in Haiti).  This equipment will significantly improve the power supply situation at our partner hospital, critical when fuel shortages remain such a challenge.  A huge thanks to Offgrid Energy for helping to load the container as well!

We had a whole host of other exciting supplies, including (but not limited to) a new ultrasound machine (as the hospital was struggling with a very old, broken machine), life-saving CPAP machines for premature babies in the neonatal unit, oxygen concentrators donated by NHS Scotland (which will help patients across the hospital, including in their COVID19 ward), office materials (chairs, tables, filing cabinets etc.) and goodies for the kids at our respite centre for children with disabilities.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the groups and individuals who donated towards this container.  It’s already had a huge impact and will improve so many lives in the years to come.
