Kay Container

Kay in Creole is house. At Volunteer Village we have a building called ‘Kay Container.' Why?

This is why! This shipping container was transformed into another ‘house’ for the village! There are two bedrooms, and each bedroom can hold up to two sets of bunkbeds, and each have their own bathroom. When this extension is finished, the Volunteer Village will soon have a capacity of up to 17 people!

This space was used for the first-time last week by a group of ladies. They told us that they especially loved their room because of the spacious windows, which creates great airflow and keeps it cool at night- important during the hot summer in Haiti.

Another really cool part of the container renovation is the outdoor showers that were installed. This gives more volunteers the opportunity to shower at once, and a unique experience to shower under the stars.

The showers were a big hit across the entire team, ones staying in the container and others staying in the old rooms. The showers are spacious and have great water pressure. With their addition, the waiting time for showering has been reduced, as our number of showers has doubled.

I am so excited that this expansion to the Volunteer Village as it is allow us to host many more big teams and long term volunteers. More importantly, this renovation creates more revenue for Volunteer Village, which then helps support the Maison de Benediction.
