We welcome volunteers with backgrounds in many professions, not just medical. We require our volunteers to be over the age of 18 (unless in a group accompanied by an adult), and an application form and informal interview must be completed before agreement to a volunteer placement is made. HHA is a Christian non-profit organization, but we have volunteers of all faiths and none, so long as you’re happy working within a Christian ethos.
HHA try to keep our in-country costs as affordable as possible as we appreciate traveling overseas is a big sacrifice. However, volunteers are expected to raise funds to support their trip and there are lots of ways you can do this. We regularly run fundraising events during the year which you could join to help with your trip costs.
Yes. You can let us know if you have a preference regarding where you’d like to volunteer on the application form. Equally, if you don’t mind where you go then we will suggest the best fit for your availability and skills.
As with any travel there can be an element of risk which is often dependent on the country. More information on safety can be found on the country specific pages. However, HHA is committed to ensuring you are well looked after and have staff and policies in place to do all we can to ensure your safety.
If you’d like to volunteer then you can find out more information on our country specific pages. You can then complete the online application form which we’ll carefully review. If we feel there may be a good fit we’ll invite you to a Skype interview. Following the outcome of this interview we require all applicants to provide two references and have a background check as part of our safeguarding best practice. Following that, you’ll be ready to go and supported by one of our team through the whole volunteering experience.
