Promoting the spiritual health of patients and their families through prayer, encouragement and support

Haiti:

Haiti is a deeply spiritual country and when people come to receive healthcare, they often also seek spiritual answers for their illness. Hope Health Action is a Christian charity, passionate about facilitating sustainable, life-saving health and disability care to the world’s most vulnerable, without any discrimination. We seek to put the call of Jesus into reality, loving others as we would wish to be loved ourselves; bringing hope, health and action to the world’s poorest.

Chaplaincy Team:

Our hospital Chaplains do an invaluable job by encouraging, supporting and praying with patients at the hospital. They visit each ward, bringing light and love. They also hold prayer meetings for staff, patients, families and visitors.

Through their work we’ve seen thousands of patients encouraged over the years. Our new chapel is able to host intimate prayer meetings as well as larger services for 100+ people, and serves as a base for the Chaplaincy Team to work from - quite an upgrade from the old UN tent that was the previous chapel!

Project Start Date: 2007

Lives being impacted: 1000+ patients and families each year

Chaplaincy Case Study

Samuel is a survivor of the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti. His severe spinal cord injuries caused paralysis (tetraplegia) and resulted in him spending several years in our rehabilitation centre as a patient. The goal for all our rehab patients is for them to become independent and rejoin society.  Samuel was supported to get a house nearby and an electric wheelchair, so he can travel by himself. To the delight of the staff who had cared for him for so long, the hospital recruited Samuel into their Chaplaincy Team.

Samuel now leads daily services at the onsite Chapel, visits patients and relatives, to offer spiritual healing and is a much valued member of the hospital community.
